Every year, when the world goes full sparkle with holiday chaos and end-of-year urgency, something quieter calls to us.
It’s subtle, but insistent.
A tug at the sleeve. Slow down.
A whisper in the soul. Pay attention.
This season is sacred.

Winter is the great equalizer. It doesn’t care about your deadlines, your color-coded calendar, or your heroic to-do list.
It offers something far more radical.
Stillness.
Reflection.
A chance to crawl out of the adrenaline loop and listen to the part of you that doesn’t shout.
I spend one full day every December in retreat. No meetings. No emails. No forcing clarity. Just a notebook, a candle, and enough silence to actually hear myself think. I reflect on the year, celebrate what I’m proud of, and sit in that delicious space of not-knowing.
The “TBD zone.”
The place where I’m not pushing for answers – I’m letting them find me.
Here’s the truth: The most extraordinary opportunities rarely arrive on a schedule. They wander in like unexpected house guests.
You meet someone at a coffee shop who sparks a new idea.
A memory surfaces that reminds you of what you loved before life got loud.
A moment of awe knocks you off autopilot and suddenly something inside wakes up again.
That’s why I study awe – joy – delight. Not because it’s cute or fluffy or a leadership gimmick, but because delight is evidence of life. Awe is a wake-up call. Joy is a compass. These moments recalibrate us. They make space for creativity, courage, and conviction. They remind us we’re not machines meant to crank out results; we’re humans meant to be moved.
Delight lives in the tiny things: A lit candle in a dark room, the hush of snowfall, the way kids belly laugh without holding anything back, the glow of a tree with lights you didn’t bother to straighten, the smell of warm cookies in the kitchen, the moment you catch yourself exhaling for the first time all day.
This season asks you to notice, as well as to be present and to put down the armor you’ve been carrying since July. Winter is not the time to outrun yourself; it’s the time to meet yourself.
Here’s your invitation –
Pause long enough to feel your own life again.
Let this season soften you.
Let it remind you what matters.
Celebrate what you’ve survived.
Honor what you’ve created.
Give yourself the spaciousness to dream again.
The year ahead doesn’t need a five-point plan right now. It needs your presence. It needs your clarity. It needs your willingness to stand in mystery without rushing to control it.
The question is simple.
Will you pause long enough to hear what your life is trying to tell you next?
