Part 5 in the Sovereign Leadership Series

There comes a moment in every leader’s journey when they stop asking, “Do I belong here?” and start declaring: “This is the room I choose.

That shift changes everything.

Earlier this year, I was invited to join a group of some of the finest coaching leaders in the world.
My first reaction? “Who Me? Really?
My second? “Absolutely.

Not just because I’m cool (I am), but because I’ve earned my place, not through performative hustle, but through decades of alignment, truth-telling, and influence.

I brought with me:
· 30 years of experience at the intersection of nonprofit impact and for-profit innovation.
· The deep, soulful commitment of a lifelong seeker.
· The discipline and drive of a college athlete.
· The fierceness and compassion of a mother (and soon-to-be grandmother).
· A steady commitment to evolving my emotional intelligence through meditation, reflection, and learning to listen more deeply to myself and to others.

I didn’t just get invited in.
I chose that room.
Because sovereign leaders don’t just wait to be seen, they know who they are when they walk in.

Coaches Mastermind Transylvania, Romania 2025

Rooted in Values. Grounded in Mission.

Your core values are more than nice words. They are the compass that keeps you grounded in hard seasons, big decisions, and uncertain terrain. They help you discern what is yours to carry, and what’s not. And when paired with your personal mission or purpose, they don’t just root you, they ignite you.

In a noisy world that rewards performative leadership, values and mission bring you home to what’s real. They guide your yes, strengthen your no, and clarify how you lead when no one’s watching.

Self-Trust is a Strategic Asset

Self-governed leaders cultivate an inner steadiness. They learn to trust themselves, not just their ideas, but their intuition. They are self-resourced, growing their emotional intelligence not as a checkbox skill, but as a daily practice: staying present, self-aware, self-regulated, motivated, and connected.

Meditation and reflection have been part of my growth edge, teaching me to listen more, react less, and lead with grounded presence. Emotional intelligence isn’t soft. It’s how you stay powerful without posturing and connected without collapsing.

The Way Forward:

  • Choose “rooms” that reflect your truth, not just your résumé.
  • Lead from your values, not your fear.
  • Listen to your intuition, and trust your hard-won wisdom.
  • Stay emotionally agile. Stay anchored in the present and in your presence.

You don’t have to become someone else to belong.
You must come home to yourself, and lead from there.
Sovereign leadership is not about holding power.
It’s about holding presence, with purpose, courage, and soul.

Ask yourself, “What kind of leader could I become if I stopped second-guessing, and fully trusted, the person I already am?

If you’re seeking the sovereign way forward and want a guide, let’s talk.
