Life is peaceful right now. Today. I’m grateful. I spent the holidays catching up on the half a dozen books I started and never completed. I spent more time in meditation, listening to Masters. Some of my favorite moments were spent absorbed in words from the Dali Lama (Ten Percent Happier Podcast and meditation app) and in reading Fr. Richard Rohr’s book Falling Upward. I consumed Ian Morgan Cron and Suzanne Stabile’s book The Road Back To You, on the Enneagram. I finished Heather McGhee’s book, The Sum of Us: What Racism Costs Everyone and How We Can Prosper Together.

I worked on my annual business planning. I love the end of the year where I queue up my annual history, reflect on what I’m proud of, what I learned and where I want to go next. Check out my blog post “Intention Setting Offers Grace” to read more about my process.

Here’s what I created for 2023 (and probably forever because it’s that relevant):

  1. FLOW: with the Universe. She delivers an abundance of what’s good for me, my family, and the world.
  2. EXPERIENCE: Carpe Diem (Seize the Day!). Say “YES!” to as many experiences as possible.
  3. COMPASSION: It’s the elixir for suffering – mine and all human suffering.
  4. CONTRIBUTION: Seek to deliver and contribute good stuff daily. Put forth quality content, good work product, love, kindness, empathy, and generous intent.

You might notice there isn’t much on financial goals, weight loss, or breaking a habit. Some of that is in my Detail Plan (exercise, eat well, find my “Joy-Profit”). These four commitments are my guides in work, in play, and in how I choose to show up in the world. They are high-altitude, umbrella ideas. I can name them when I wake in the morning, and review my attempts to achieve them before bed at night.

What are your thoughts/intentions/focus for 2023?
Maybe you have big-ass goals (brilliant!)

Perhaps it’s only one idea or intention. Write it down. Put it on your screen lock. Stick it to the refrigerator.

Do your ideas, intentions or goals resonate with your values (If you haven’t identified your values yet, let me know and we’ll get started). Feel free to use the ideas above if they resonate, or make up your own.
